ISL 2024-25: Brison’s Consecutive Brace Leads FC Goa to 4-2 Triumph Over Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4 (NationPress) FC Goa secured a 4-2 victory against Odisha FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 tonight. The Gaurs are currently in third place in the standings with 25 points, having extended their unbeaten away match streak to seven.

Odisha FC is now without a win in their last 11 encounters against the Gaurs.

Brison Fernandes opened the scoring for the visitors in the eighth minute, marking his second consecutive brace. He linked up with Iker Guarrotxena in the box, taking advantage of a backline that allowed him space for a shot. After Mourtada Fall mishandled the ball, Brison controlled it with his chest and fired it into the bottom right corner.

The Juggernauts equalized when Jerry Lalrinzuala was fouled in the penalty area during his 150th ISL appearance, making him the tenth player to reach this milestone. Ahmed Jahouh converted the penalty with a clever panenka, catching Hrithik Tiwari off-guard to level the score at 1-1 in the 29th minute.

The Gaurs regained the lead just before half-time through a well-coordinated move. Iker maneuvered into the left flank, drawing defenders away. His obstructed shot fell to Udanta Singh, who effortlessly slotted it into the bottom right corner to make it 2-1.

A fantastic solo effort from Brison in the 53rd minute extended the lead. After receiving a pass from Sandesh Jhingan, he showcased his footwork and struck the ball into the top right corner from outside the box, earning his brace.

Building on their momentum, the Gaurs continued to press forward. Iker drew defenders to him once more, attempting to cross for the unmarked Brison, but instead, Amey Ranawade inadvertently directed the ball into his own net in the 56th minute.

Though Odisha FC created a few chances to respond, they were unable to capitalize until late in the game. Jerry Mawihmingthanga scored with a header from a cross by Thoiba Singh, but despite this effort, the home side couldn't find the equalizer, allowing the Gaurs to claim the three points.

Looking ahead, FC Goa will face Hyderabad FC on January 8, while Odisha FC will take on Chennaiyin FC on January 9.
