Jaipur, Sep 20 (NationPress) A significant security lapse at Jaipur Central Jail has resulted in the suspension of 11 officials, including the deputy jailer, after two inmates managed to escape by cutting through iron bars. The inmates, Naval Kishore Mahawar and Anas Kumar, were able to move around the premises for over an hour while the guards on duty were asleep.
They subsequently scaled the 26-foot-high boundary wall using a plastic pipe in the early hours of Saturday. Initial attempts to escape involved climbing the women's jail wall adjacent to the Central Jail with a blanket, which unfortunately ripped.
Eventually, they utilized an 18-foot plastic pipe from the garden to help scale the boundary wall near the visiting area around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both inmates incurred injuries during their escape.
Anas sustained a head injury after falling from the wall and was apprehended at his home in Malpura Gate by Lalkothi police at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, his accomplice, Naval Kishore, remains at large.
This jailbreak has prompted immediate action, resulting in the suspension of Deputy Jailer Ramcharan Meena, along with seven jail guards (including two women) and three RAC personnel.
Departmental investigations are ongoing. The suspended personnel include Chief Constable Rekha Lakhera, Constables Anita Jajoria, Manoj Kumar Meena, Dharamveer Gurjar, Ratan Singh Rathore, Manoj Verma, and Maya Jat, along with RAC personnel Subhash, Ashok Kumar, and Tarachand. Jaipur Central Jail accommodates over 2,100 inmates spread across 14 wards. Typically, one guard is assigned per ward, except in Ward 10, which houses serious offenders and has two guards.
On the night of the incident, between 15 to 18 jail staff were on duty, yet none noticed the escape. CCTV footage later revealed that multiple guards were asleep during the incident.
The inmates had cut the iron bars late at night, bent them to create an opening, and left their barrack around 2 a.m. They searched for escape routes for over an hour before using the plastic pipe to climb the boundary wall. Police and jail officials continue to hunt for Naval Kishore.
