Agartala, Oct 1 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, six inmates — comprising five undertrial prisoners and one convicted individual — managed to escape from a jail in Tripura during the early hours of Wednesday, as per officials.
According to a representative from the North Tripura district administration, the six individuals, including one person serving a life sentence, fled from the Dharmanagar Sub-Jail located in Kalikapur after launching an attack on a guard with sharp weapons.
The escape occurred when jail staff were escorting the inmates out of their cells for their breakfast and daily hygiene routines.
The injured guard, Bedu Miah, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Dharmanagar District Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Officials reported that a large-scale search operation was initiated promptly, involving multiple security teams, and efforts to locate the six escapees are still ongoing.
The Superintendent of Police for North Tripura, Avinash Kumar Rai, is personally leading one of the search teams. All police stations and security posts in the North Tripura and Unakoti districts have been put on high alert.
“We have also asked the Border Security Force to keep a close watch along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent the escapees from crossing it,” stated an official.

The escaped undertrial prisoners include Abdul Pata, Rahim Ali, Narayan Chandra Dutta, Rosan Ali, and Nazim Uddin, while Sunil Debbarma, who has been convicted of serious crimes including murder, is serving a life sentence.
Narayan Chandra Dutta is a Bangladeshi national previously arrested in Tripura under various passport violations, while Abdul Pata hails from Nilambazar in Assam’s Sribhumi district (formerly Karimganj district).
Abdul Pata had previously been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, for his involvement in drug-related offenses.
