Jaipur, Sep 10 (NationPress) On Wednesday, the Rajasthan Police established a dedicated cell to offer 24/7 support for residents of the state who are currently stranded in Nepal. This initiative aims to synchronize relief operations as the atmosphere in the neighboring nation has significantly worsened due to violent demonstrations, marked by incidents of arson, clashes, and an enforced curfew in the capital, Kathmandu.
The unrest has severely disrupted transportation and aviation services, leaving hundreds of Indian nationals, including nearly 200 passengers from Jaipur, stuck at Kathmandu airport.
This group of passengers, having embarked on their pilgrimage on August 28, visited the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu and arrived at the airport on Sunday. However, due to the violent protests and curfew, all transport and flights have been suspended.
Families back in Jaipur are expressing deep concern and have reached out to the Government of India for assistance.
“Traffic, taxi services, and flights have come to a complete standstill. The passengers are stranded at the airport,” reported Shambhudayal Maharshi and Banshidhar Jangid from Sinwar village, who contacted former councillor Ganpat Lal Yadav to raise awareness about the situation.
In an immediate response, the Rajasthan Police have set up a special control cell at the office of the Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, PHQ, Jaipur.
Under the direction of DGP Rajiv Sharma, this cell will function around the clock to manage relief efforts and aid citizens.
SP Govardhanlal Sokaria has been designated as the in-charge, with three officers assigned to continuous duty.
The police have also provided 24x7 helpline numbers (0141-2740832, 0141-2741807) along with a dedicated WhatsApp number (97849-42702) for families and citizens to request support.
Officials urged everyone to share these contacts widely to facilitate timely assistance.
As the situation continues to deteriorate in Nepal, the focus remains on the coordinated efforts between the Government of India and state authorities to ensure the safe return of our people, locals emphasized.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his concern, describing the violence in Nepal as “heart-wrenching” and assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation.
“Our government is deeply concerned about the safety of Rajasthani citizens trapped in Nepal. I have reached out to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for updates. All Rajasthanis in Nepal are urged to maintain contact with the Embassy and strictly adhere to the advisory issued by the Government of India,” he stated on social media.
