New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Monday, focusing on the enhancement of economic, technology, defence, mining, P2P, and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Post-meeting, EAM Jaishankar shared on X, "Today's dialogue with DPM and FM Radoslaw Sikorski from Poland allowed us to have an open exchange regarding our bilateral relationship and global affairs. We discussed the advancement of our economic, technology, defence, mining, P2P, and multilateral cooperation. I appreciate Poland’s backing for stronger India-EU relations."
During his introductory remarks, EAM Jaishankar emphasized the need for Poland to adopt a stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism and refrain from supporting the terrorist infrastructure near India. He acknowledged the steady progress in India-Poland relations, but also indicated that these ties require ongoing attention.
"Deputy Prime Minister, you are well-versed in our region and the persistent issues of cross-border terrorism. I look forward to discussing your recent visits to the area. It is crucial for Poland to display zero tolerance for terrorism and avoid contributing to the terrorist framework in our vicinity," he stated.
He reiterated India's position on the Ukraine conflict, describing the "selective targeting" of New Delhi as "unfair and unjustified." EAM Jaishankar pointed out that he and Sikorski are convening at a time of significant global turbulence and emphasized the importance of exchanging perspectives as India and Poland navigate their unique challenges and opportunities.
"Our dialogue today will naturally encompass regional and global developments. An exchange of evaluations regarding our respective neighbourhoods would indeed be beneficial. You have publicly addressed these topics during your visit as well," he remarked.
"Earlier this year in New York and recently in Paris, I candidly expressed our views on the Ukraine situation and its ramifications. I have consistently highlighted that the selective targeting of India is both unfair and unjustified, and I reiterate that today," the EAM added.
Celebrating the bilateral relationship, EAM Jaishankar remarked, "Our bilateral ties have advanced steadily but still require ongoing care. India and Poland have historically enjoyed warm and cordial relations. In recent times, this has been underscored by high-level political exchanges and vibrant economic and people-to-people connections," referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Poland in August 2024, during which their ties were elevated to a strategic partnership status.
Radoslaw Sikorski arrived in New Delhi on Monday after completing engagements in Jaipur. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Sikorski's engagements in New Delhi are aimed at strengthening the India-Poland Strategic Partnership.
