New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in a telephonic dialogue with his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski, reaffirming India’s position advocating for a swift cessation of hostilities and a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“I had a discussion with Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski of Poland today. He expressed his concerns regarding recent developments associated with Poland’s security. I reiterated that India supports an immediate end to hostilities and a lasting solution to the Ukraine crisis,” EAM stated on X.
This conversation came in the wake of Poland's claims that on the night of September 9, its airspace experienced 19 breaches by drones purportedly manufactured in Russia.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk characterized the drone incidents as a “large-scale provocation.”
“It seems we are witnessing a large-scale provocation,” Tusk stated before an emergency government meeting, as reported by Polish public broadcaster TVP Info.
In relation to the UAV entering Poland's airspace, the Russian Defence Ministry indicated readiness to engage in discussions with its Polish counterparts.
“No installations in Poland were intended to be targeted,” the Russian military department clarified.
They noted that the maximum range of the UAVs, which allegedly crossed into Poland, does not exceed 700 km.
“Nonetheless, we are open to discussions with the Polish Defense Ministry on this issue,” emphasized the Russian Defence Ministry.
Reiterating its commitment to ending the conflict in Ukraine, India expressed optimism that all involved parties would progress constructively towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
“We welcome all recent initiatives aimed at bringing peace to Ukraine. We hope that all parties involved will take constructive steps forward. India advocates for an immediate end to the conflict and the establishment of enduring peace,” stated MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a weekly press briefing in New Delhi last week.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has persistently emphasized India’s stance on a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and New Delhi's support for all efforts in this direction.
Last week, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, Prime Minister Modi, in a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, applauded recent efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
PM Modi remarked that humanity desires an end to the war and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.
“We endorse all recent endeavors towards conflict resolution. We hope all parties will proceed constructively. We must find ways to conclude the conflict swiftly to restore regional stability and peace. This is the call of all humanity,” PM Modi concluded.
