Jamnagar, June 5 (NationPress) The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) in Gujarat has successfully concluded a phase of its urban development initiative by demolishing 355 properties belonging to 331 residents as part of a road-widening project linking Swaminarayan Nagar and Gandhinagar. The demolition operation, which commenced on May 31, wrapped up on June 4, clearing the way for a 12-meter-wide, 3.5 km stretch.

Officials revealed that two dedicated teams have been organized to remove the debris along the newly opened route, ensuring it is fully accessible to the public. They confirmed that the entire demolition and debris clearance process is nearing completion, with the road now ready for basic public usage.

In the subsequent phase, the JMC is poised to initiate immediate infrastructure enhancements, including the installation of road dividers, traffic markings, and a new paver surface. Once finalized, the widened road is anticipated to significantly alleviate congestion and enhance commute times for over two lakh residents in the surrounding locales.

This expanded route is also expected to provide substantial relief from the persistent traffic jams on nearby D.K.V. Road, GG Hospital Road, and Amber Chowkdi. With a more direct and broader thoroughfare, the distance and duration needed to navigate the city will be markedly reduced, officials added.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated a large-scale demolition campaign near Chandola Lake, targeting illegal encroachments. In its first phase, approximately 1.5 lakh square meters were cleared, followed by an additional 2.5 lakh square meters in the second phase. This operation involved over 3,000 police personnel and 25 State Reserve Police companies to ensure order during the process.

Following a major fire at Avadh Ruturaj Market in Limbayat, Surat, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) also took steps against unauthorized constructions. Approximately 9,900 square feet of illegal structures, including rooftop sheds and commercial enclosures, were dismantled. The fire had devastated at least 10 shops, raising concerns over fire hazards linked to unauthorized constructions.
