Jamui Police arrested Ramashish Chaudhary in connection with the alleged molestation and assault of two minor students in the Madwa Pahar area along the Jamui-Lakhisarai route in Bihar. The incident, which reportedly occurred late on Saturday evening, came to public attention after a video began circulating on social media the following evening, triggering a two-pronged police crackdown — against the alleged perpetrators and against those who shared footage that risked exposing the minor victim's identity.

What Happened at Madwa Pahar

According to police, a minor female student was allegedly stopped and molested by a group of youths while returning from the Madwa Pahar area late on Saturday. A male student accompanying her was also allegedly assaulted. The incident was recorded and the video began circulating on social media on Sunday evening, drawing the attention of authorities. The Jamui administration subsequently contacted the victim's family and registered a First Information Report (FIR).

Arrests Made, Key Accused Still at Large

While Ramashish Chaudhary has been arrested, the prime accused — Nandan Yadav, identified in the video as wearing an orange scarf, and Hare Ram Yadav — remain at large. Police teams are conducting continuous raids to locate them. Additionally, three juveniles in conflict with the law have been detained, and seven to eight youths have been identified so far, with two additional suspects also named. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the incident, the roles of identified suspects, and the source from which the video was recorded and distributed.

120 Social-Media Profiles Face FIRs

Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal confirmed that FIRs have been registered against the operators of 120 social-media profiles across different platforms for allegedly sharing the video and risking disclosure of the minor victim's identity. Cases have been filed at Jamui Sadar Police Station under provisions of the POCSO Act, the Information Technology Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act. Dayal stated that displaying or circulating material that reveals the identity of a minor victim is a serious offence under these laws. Police are also working to have the videos removed from social-media platforms.

Authorities Appeal to the Public

ADG (Law and Order) K.S. Anupam said efforts were continuing to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the crime. Police have reiterated their appeal to the public not to post, forward or share photographs, videos or any information that could reveal the minor victim's identity or personal details. Dayal added that the investigation was being conducted impartially and that all avenues were being pursued. The SIT probe is expected to examine the full chain of events, including how the video was originally recorded and subsequently spread online.
