Jammu, Dec 3 (NationPress) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Wednesday that the cabinet of the Union Territory has put forth recommendations aimed at refining the reservation policy concerning government employment and professional educational institutions.
During a press conference following the cabinet meeting, Abdullah highlighted that there were 22 topics on the agenda, which included the establishment of a new Kashmir house in Dwarika (Delhi), the promotion of chief engineers in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) department, and initiatives to revive cooperative societies in J&K.
When questioned about the cabinet's stance on the reservation policy, the CM mentioned, “This is the third discussion on the matter in the cabinet. We engaged in an exhaustive debate. A sub-committee led by senior cabinet minister, Sakina Itoo, also thoroughly assessed the situation. In today’s session, we have made recommendations to refine the reservation policy as much as possible.”
He emphasized that the decision was made for the benefit of the populace and not to appease any particular faction. “It is evident that politics is being played regarding this issue, with certain individuals now threatening protests. Our goal has been to honor a commitment made to the citizens, and we have achieved that with our recommendations on the reservation policy. As the cabinet decisions are still under wraps and have been forwarded to the Hon’ble L-G, I cannot disclose further details at this moment,” Abdullah added.
Following the cabinet meeting, Minister Javed Rana stated that the assembly, presided over by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has endorsed several crucial departmental initiatives, which include promotions in the R&B Department and the establishment of the Animal Protection Board.
Officials reported that the cabinet meeting commenced at 9 a.m. at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jammu, addressing a variety of governance and developmental matters, as noted by senior officials.
Topics such as electricity supply, the reservation policy, and preparations for the winter season were also discussed during the meeting.
“A primary approval granted by the Cabinet involved a proposal related to promotions and service matters of officer cadres in the R&B Department. After extensive discussions, the government has confirmed seniority and related service issues. Furthermore, the Cabinet has allocated financial support to bolster cooperative societies within the livestock and fisheries sectors. While some minor topics were addressed, the central focus remained on the promotion and service proposals for R&B officers, whose seniority confirmations have been approved,” the minister stated.
