Srinagar, Dec 29 (NationPress) As a proactive approach to dispute resolution, the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh launched a 'Conduct of Mediation Advanced Course' on Monday.

An official announcement detailed, "In a pivotal move to enhance alternative dispute resolution strategies, the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court commenced a three-day 'Conduct of Mediation Advanced Course (Capsule Course), Training of Trainers Programme' simultaneously at both Jammu and Srinagar."

"Under the guidance of Chief Justice Arun Palli of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, the initiative aims to improve mediation skills and cultivate a skilled group of mediators throughout the Union Territory, thereby facilitating access to prompt and efficient justice," the statement elaborated.

"In collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy and the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the Mediation and Conciliation Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court initiated the three-day 'Conduct of Mediation – Advanced Course (Capsule Course), Training of Trainers Programme' on Monday at the Jammu and Srinagar branches of the Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy."

"Scheduled from December 29 to December 31, 2025, this 20-hour advanced mediation training course is designed to bolster the competencies of mediators within the Union Territory," the statement noted.

"The inaugural session at the Jammu campus began with a welcome address from Naseer Ahmad Dar, Director of the J&K Judicial Academy, who underscored the increasing significance of mediation in fortifying the justice delivery framework. He pointed out that advanced, practice-oriented mediation training is vital for equipping mediators with the necessary skills for effective conflict resolution."

"During his speech, the Director of the J&K Judicial Academy introduced the resource person and welcomed attendees to the three-day event."

"At the Srinagar campus, the opening session featured a welcome address by Tabasum Qadir Parray, Secretary of the Srinagar District Legal Services Authority, who highlighted the importance of mediation training in improving dispute resolution strategies," the statement added.

"She encouraged participants to actively engage with the course material and practical exercises. The inaugural event in Srinagar also saw the attendance of Mir Sayeem Qayoom, Secretary of the Anantnag District Legal Services Authority."

The first day featured Rita Das Mouzumdar, an advocate from Assam's Gauhati High Court, as the resource person, according to the statement.

"She is an accredited mediation trainer with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court. The course curriculum for the first day included structured theoretical and practical modules on advanced mediation topics. Session I covered Understanding Conflict and Conflict Resolution, focusing on the perception of conflict, causes of disputes, and resolution methods."

This session involved role-playing activities followed by group discussions and reflections, the statement mentioned.

"Session II concentrated on mediation itself, defining its components and the mediator’s role, with a focus on core mediation principles."

"Session III tackled the conduct of mediation, addressing joint sessions, individual sessions, techniques to overcome deadlocks, and methods for concluding mediation processes."

The session offered attendees a comprehensive overview of the entire mediation process. The sessions integrated lectures, role-plays, and interactive discussions, allowing participants to apply theoretical concepts to real-life mediation scenarios," the statement continued.

"The advanced course is designed to deepen participants' comprehension of mediation processes, enhance practical skills, and strengthen the pool of trained mediators across the Union Territory. Participants from both locations appreciated the hands-on, simulation-based approach, noting that the structured role-plays provided practical clarity on how to incorporate mediation tools into their daily work."

"The concurrent execution of the programme in Jammu and Srinagar reflects the ongoing commitment of the J&K and Ladakh High Court to expand mediation awareness and bolster advanced dispute resolution capabilities throughout the Union Territory," the statement concluded.
