Srinagar, May 17 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, announced an increase in ex-gratia relief under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) for civilians and government employees affected by violence or civil unrest.
This new enhancement is in addition to the existing Central Scheme for Assistance for civilian victims of terrorist acts, which provides Rs 5 lakhs for death and permanent disability. The compensation for civilian deaths has risen from Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, marking a significant 250% increase.
For those permanently disabled due to violence or unrest, the relief amount has jumped from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh. In the case of deceased ex-servicemen (Police), the ex-gratia has seen a 200% rise, from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
Ex-police personnel who suffer permanent disability will now receive Rs 1.5 lakh, up from Rs 75,000. The compensation for the death of a Magistrate on duty has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
For permanent disability while on duty, Magistrates will receive Rs 1.5 lakh under the SRE scheme.
The relief package also extends to village defence guards, with their compensation for death rising from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, and for permanent disability set at Rs 1.5 lakh.
Government employees who lose their lives due to violence will see a 500% increase in their ex-gratia, now set at Rs 5 lakh, up from Rs 1 lakh. The amount for permanent disability has also been raised from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh.
Manoj Sinha paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, stating that India has faced cross-border terrorism for decades, but Operation Sindoor signifies a shift from deterrence to direct action.
“Pakistan will face severe consequences for any future provocations. Our responses will be both visible and vigorous. Meanwhile, we remain committed to the welfare of those ensuring internal security and fostering the comprehensive development of J&K,” he asserted.
