The Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea indicated that the missiles were detected being launched from a northern region of Pyongyang at around 3:50 PM local time. A Japanese government representative noted that the missiles appeared to have landed outside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Japan has condemned North Korea's missile activity. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi instructed relevant officials to gather information and to ensure the safety of vessels and aircraft. So far, there are no reports of damage resulting from the missile launches.
US Forces Korea reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to defend both its homeland and its allies in the vicinity. They stated, "We are aware of the missile launches and are consulting closely with our allies and partners."

In December, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised the launch of long-range strategic cruise missiles, advocating for the “unlimited combat and sustained” development of the nation’s nuclear capabilities, as reported by Yonhap News Agency citing state media. This missile testing occurred shortly after Kim inspected an 8,700-ton nuclear-powered strategic guided missile submarine under construction to demonstrate military strength.
The missile launch exercises occurred in the Yellow Sea, highlighting the absolute reliability and combat readiness of North Korea's strategic counterattack capabilities, as reported by Yonhap citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). They confirmed that the strategic cruise missiles followed their designated flight path for 10,199 seconds and 10,203 seconds to successfully reach their targets.
