Will the Jharkhand HC Provide Age Relaxation for JPSC Aspirants?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ranchi, Feb 12 (NationPress) The Jharkhand High Court has offered interim relief to 22 individuals requesting an increase in the upper age limit for the Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s (JPSC) 14th Civil Services Examination.
During a hearing on Thursday regarding a petition led by Kishore Kumar and others, Justice Ananda Sen instructed the JPSC to process the applicants' submissions, ensuring their inclusion in the recruitment procedure.
However, the court emphasized that the announcement of their results and any future appointments will depend on the final ruling by the court.
The petitioners, represented by attorney Amritansh Vats, contended that according to the 2021 Recruitment Rules, the Civil Services Examination should be held annually. They asserted that due to the irregular scheduling of the examination, numerous candidates have surpassed the upper age threshold without any provided relaxation.
Furthermore, the petition highlighted that while the upper age limit was eased in the previous two examinations, the cutoff date for determining maximum age in the current examination has been established as August 1, 2026. This, according to the petitioners, has rendered many candidates ineligible, with the delay attributed solely to the Commission.
Upon reviewing the arguments, the court mandated the Commission to accept the applications from the petitioners, ensuring they retain the chance to compete. It reiterated that their participation would remain provisional, subject to the court's ultimate decision.
The subsequent date for the hearing will be announced later.
The JPSC recently published an advertisement for the 14th Civil Services Examination, with online applications commencing on January 31. The deadline for applications is February 14, while the examination fee can be settled until 5 p.m. on February 16.
A total of 103 positions are set to be filled through this examination, including 28 Deputy Collector roles, 42 Deputy Superintendent of Police positions, 10 State Public Relations Officer posts, 10 Assistant Municipal Commissioner/Executive Officer roles, four Probation Officer positions, three Assistant Director (Women and Child Development) roles, and two Jail Superintendent, District Superintendent, and Assistant Registrar posts each.
