Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ranchi, Jan 15 (NationPress) The return of migrant workers from Jharkhand, who had been captured and held hostage by militants in the West African nation of Niger, has filled their families and the surrounding community with immense joy and relief. They express their heartfelt gratitude to the Indian government for facilitating their safe return.
These five workers hail from Dondolo village in the Bagodar block of Giridih district and had traveled to Niger approximately eight months prior in search of job opportunities, where they were engaged in a transmission line project. It was during this assignment that they were taken hostage by armed groups.
All of these labourers were affiliated with the Kalpataru Transmission Line Company involved in the KPTC project in Niger and were kidnapped last April, remaining unaccounted for since then.
Their families experienced profound distress during their absence, continuously praying for their safe return.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and persistent advocacy, the release of the workers from their captors was successfully negotiated.
After over eight months of uncertainty, the workers are finally back home, leading to emotional reunions with their loved ones, tears of joy streaming down their faces.
The families of these labourers are expressing profound gratitude towards the Central government for ensuring their safe return to their homeland.
Sanjay Mahato, one of the returning labourers, shared with IANS, 'We are immensely grateful to the Government of India and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We returned home safely, just as we departed.'
Family members are also voicing their appreciation for the Modi administration's role in their safe repatriation.
Several of the returned workers recounted their harrowing experiences, detailing the daily struggles and adversities they faced during their captivity.
Reflecting on their ordeal, the labourers noted that life in the grip of the Niger terrorists was fraught with challenges.
'Each day was overshadowed by fear and uncertainty, yet we maintained our faith that the Indian government was exerting every effort to ensure our safe return to India,' another worker remarked.
