New Delhi, Oct 19 (NationPress) In a rapid and well-coordinated mission, the Assam Rifles, part of the Army's Spear Corps, managed to successfully rescue two labourers who were kidnapped by cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district, as reported by defence officials on Sunday.
As per the officials, the abduction took place when armed NSCN-K militants seized two labourers from a construction site located at Laho village in the Dadam circle of Tirap district on Saturday.
“Upon receiving specific intelligence, Assam Rifles units were rapidly deployed to initiate a well-planned search and rescue operation in the vicinity of Nianu, aimed at locating the captives and apprehending the abductors,” stated officials from the Ministry of Defence.
During the operation, insurgents began firing indiscriminately at the security forces. However, in a display of professionalism and caution, the security personnel retaliated in a measured manner, successfully rescuing the civilians while ensuring their safety.
“As the search operation commenced, the insurgents opened fire on the advancing troops. The responding troops demonstrated remarkable professionalism and caution, retaliating in a controlled manner to minimize collateral damage and safeguard the abducted civilians,” an official remarked.
The timely and calculated actions of the Assam Rifles resulted in the successful rescue of both labourers without any injuries, simultaneously thwarting further subversive actions by the faction in the region.
The rescued individuals are currently being transported to Khonsa for medical evaluation and assistance.
Officials noted that search and sanitization operations are still ongoing.
It is important to highlight that last month, the Union government extended the ban on NSCN-K and all its affiliated factions for an additional five years, citing its involvement in activities detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India.
According to a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, NSCN-K has expressed its intent to establish a sovereign Nagaland comprising Naga-inhabited areas in the Indo-Myanmar region through secession from the Indian Union and has allied itself with other illegal groups like ULFA-I.
