Itanagar, April 27 (NationPress) A construction worker who had been kidnapped was successfully rescued, while three militants associated with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (KYA faction) were killed during a fierce confrontation between security forces and extremists in Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh, according to officials.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Amit Shukla reported on Sunday night that two construction workers were abducted on April 25 from the Pangchao area in Longding district.
Acting on reliable intelligence, troops from the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles initiated a large-scale operation in the Pangchao area on Sunday.
“Contact was established, and in the subsequent firefight, three members of the NSCN (KYA) group were neutralized,” he revealed.
During the operation, four automatic weapons, ammunition, and other military-grade materials were recovered from the site. One construction worker was rescued, and efforts are ongoing to locate the second individual.
In a related operation, the Army and Assam Rifles, in partnership with Assam Police, successfully apprehended a prominent member of the NSCN-KYA from Charaideo district in Assam.
Previously, the NSCN-K-YA had issued an extortion demand of Rs 20 lakh to the public sector oil company Oil India Limited (OIL).
This notice, signed by the self-proclaimed Major of the NSCN-KYA outfit, Tha Aung, was sent to OIL's office in Manabhum, located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The notice demanded payment by December 10, warning that OIL would be held accountable for any delays.
OIL operates in the Manabhum reserve forest in eastern Arunachal Pradesh, which is heavily forested and spans both Changlang and Namsai districts.
It is important to note that the NSCN-K-YA has not entered into a ceasefire agreement with the central government.
