Jharkhand Enhances Voter List Revision Efforts with BLO Stickers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ranchi, March 25 (NationPress) The preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Jharkhand are gaining momentum. Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar conducted a review meeting on Wednesday with Deputy Electoral Officers from all districts, instructing them to finalize the pre-SIR activities promptly.
He emphasized that the primary goal of this initiative is to create an accurate, transparent, and error-free electoral roll, ensuring that no eligible citizen is overlooked.
During the meeting, Kumar urged officials to accelerate the distribution of stickers containing Booth Level Officer (BLO) information to voters’ residences.
These stickers will include vital details such as the name, mobile number, and house number of the assigned BLO, allowing voters to reach out to them directly. This program is part of the ongoing door-to-door verification campaign, where BLOs are visiting each home to assist with the completion of enumeration forms.
He also instructed that voters who find their details missing from the previous intensive revision list can utilize the “Book a Call” feature on the Election Commission’s ECINet platform to connect with their BLO. This measure aims to simplify the process of adding or updating names in the electoral roll.
Furthermore, officials are tasked with compiling lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters at polling stations. Special attention was given to including voters registered at prior addresses of displaced or demolished homes in the shifted category. Additionally, during house mapping, officials were advised to maintain pre-assigned house numbers and only assign notional numbers when necessary.
Previously, the Chief Electoral Officer met with representatives from recognized political parties to provide comprehensive information about the SIR process and requested their collaboration. The Election Commission has also urged political parties to hasten the appointment and training of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for improved coordination with BLOs at the grassroots level.
The Commission clarified that the lists of absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters will be released to the public only after validation by political party agents through the BLOs. This measure is expected to aid in eliminating fictitious voters and enhancing the reliability of the electoral roll.
