Jisshu Sengupta Opens Up About His Experience with Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan on ‘Bhoot Bangla’
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 30 (NationPress) Bengali cinema icon Jisshu Sengupta, gearing up for his role in the forthcoming film Bhoot Bangla, shared insights into his collaboration with Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan during the film's production.
He elaborated on how he initially needed time to grasp the director’s unique style before becoming comfortable on set.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, the actor expressed that during the initial days of filming, he experienced a mix of excitement and nervousness—not due to pressure but because of the privilege of working with Priyadarshan.
‘In the beginning, I wouldn’t exactly call it tension, but I was aware that I was working with “THE” Priyadarshan. On set, he exudes a relaxed demeanor. He enjoys the process and welcomes input from everyone,’ Jisshu remarked.
He added, “Akshay sir would come over and suggest, ‘Sir, maybe we can approach it this way,’ and Priyadarshan would respond, ‘That’s a great idea, let’s implement it.’ That’s just who he is.”
Jisshu continued, “Working alongside Akshay paaji was a real pleasure. His vibrant personality made it a joy to be around him.”
Reflecting on his initial doubts, Jisshu mentioned that the director’s understated feedback left him feeling uncertain about his performance.
‘During the first few days, I felt a bit confused because he would call “cut” and then immediately move to “next shot.” I wondered if something was amiss. So, I approached Abhilash, who is second-in-command, to clarify. I asked, ‘Abhilash, sir isn’t saying much. Is everything alright?’
He shared that he received reassurance regarding Priyadarshan’s working method.
“Abhilash told me, ‘No, no, Jisshu sir, everything is fine. This is his way.’ After two or three days, I felt more at ease. If he isn’t satisfied, he will definitely let you know; if he’s fine, he won’t comment,” he explained.
Once he understood the acclaimed director’s approach, Jisshu felt completely relaxed on set.
‘Realizing that silence from him meant all was well allowed me to relax completely. Working with him has been immensely enjoyable, without a doubt,’ he stated.
He also discussed the film's London schedule.
‘There was a filming segment in London where I was the sole actor present, yet we had a fantastic time. Priyadarshan sir and I truly enjoyed our time there,’ he added.
Jisshu affirmed that Akshay Kumar is equally entertaining, highlighting the joy of having him around.
Regarding Bhoot Bangla, the film signifies another long-awaited collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan.
The cast includes Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the late veteran star Asrani. The movie is set to release on April 10.
