Jammu, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Cabinet has announced an increase in the monthly honorarium for special police officers (SPOs) and has also approved several essential administrative proposals during a meeting led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
In a decision that holds significant implications, the J&K Cabinet resolved on Monday evening to enhance, effective immediately, the monthly honorarium provided to SPOs.
A newly recruited SPO will now receive Rs 12,000 per month, those with five years of service will earn Rs 18,000, those with 15 years will obtain Rs 24,000, and those with 30 years will receive Rs 30,000 monthly.
This initiative by the J&K Cabinet represents a progressive step in acknowledging the contributions made by SPOs.
Beyond their routine responsibilities, SPOs have made sacrifices and have been at the forefront in combating terrorism.
During the peak of terrorism in J&K, the recruitment of SPOs was initiated to bolster the J&K Police and to provide local youth with employment opportunities, preventing them from being drawn into terrorist activities.
