Srinagar, May 16 (NationPress) A collaborative press briefing took place here on Friday, where senior officials from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF announced that joint forces have successfully eliminated six terrorists in the Valley over the past 48 hours.
The briefing featured IGP (Kashmir) V.K. Birdi Kumar, GoC Victor Force Major General Dhananjay Joshi, and IG CRPF, Mitesh Jain.
According to IGP Kumar, these six terrorists were neutralized in the Valley during two separate operations carried out in Kelar, Shopian, and Tral, conducted by the Army in collaboration with J&K Police and the CRPF.
“In response to the increased terror activities in the Kashmir Valley, all security forces deployed here reassessed their strategies. Following this review, a stronger emphasis was placed on operations.
“This renewed focus and coordination led to two successful operations within the last 48 hours, yielding significant results.
“The operations in Kelar, Shopian, and Tral resulted in the elimination of a total of six terrorists,” stated IGP Kashmir.
Major General Dhananjay Joshi, GoC Victor Force, elaborated on the anti-terror operations in the Kelar and Tral regions, discussing the challenges faced by the joint forces during these missions.
“On May 12, we received intelligence about a terrorist group's possible presence in the higher reaches of Kelar. The following morning, upon detecting some movement, our teams confronted the terrorists, who responded with gunfire.
“Our forces neutralized them. The second operation in Tral was executed in a village, where as we established a cordon, the terrorists took positions in various houses and opened fire at us. The primary challenge was to ensure the safety of civilian villagers.
“Ultimately, we neutralized three terrorists in this operation. One of the six terrorists, named Shahid Kuttay, was linked to two major attacks, including an incident involving a German tourist, and was involved in funding activities,” explained GoC Victor Force.
Following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a local, the joint forces have escalated their operations against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
In retaliation for the terror attack, India initiated ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which targeted and destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and led to the elimination of nearly 100 terror operatives at key bases within Pakistan.
Targets included Bhawalpur, the headquarters of Jaish, and Muridke, a significant training facility for Lashkar.
While both countries announced a ceasefire, the Indian government stated that the Indus Water Treaty and trade with Pakistan would remain suspended.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that water and blood cannot coexist, asserting that discussions with Pakistan will only revolve around terrorism and PoK.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed soldiers here yesterday, affirming that the ceasefire agreement remains valid only if Pakistan refrains from any terror activities against India from its territory.
