Imphal, June 9 (NationPress) In a coordinated effort, the Army alongside various central and state security forces, has successfully apprehended 23 extremists from different groups and seized 40 weapons, including grenades and ammunition, across eight districts, officials reported on Monday.
A spokesperson from the Defence stated that these meticulously planned joint operations led to the capture of militants from various hill and valley-based outfits.
Operations were carried out over the last few days in districts including Kangpokpi, Thoubal, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Jiribam, Imphal East, and Imphal West.
Specialized resources, such as Explosive Detection Dogs, were utilized during these operations by the Army.
In the district of Imphal East, security forces discovered five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), totaling 35 kg of explosives.
The seized arms included a variety of firearms such as Self Loading Rifles (SLR), M16 rifles, sten machine guns, INSAS rifles, .303 rifles, double-barrel rifles, single-barrel rifles, action rifles, Improvised Mortars, Pull Mechanism Rifles, mortars, heavy calibre launchers, and 9 mm pistols.
The detained militants along with the recovered arms, ammunition, explosives, and other items have been handed over to the Manipur Police.

Meanwhile, the situation in the Imphal valley region, which includes five districts, has been described by police as tense yet manageable.
New unrest began in Manipur's valley region on Saturday night following the detention of a leader from the Meitei radical outfit Arambai Tenggol.
Ashem Kanan Singh (46), the leader of Arambai Tenggol, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Imphal due to his involvement in serious criminal activities, according to a police statement released on Sunday.
The statement also noted that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained three insurgents linked to a deadly attack on security forces, which resulted in the deaths of two police commandos and injuries to several others in Moreh, located in Tengnoupal district on January 17 of last year.
