London, July 27 (NationPress) Arsenal has officially completed the acquisition of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of 55 million pounds (approximately 74 million U.S. dollars), with the potential to earn an additional 8.5 million pounds through performance-related incentives.
Gyokeres has signed a five-year contract with the club based in London after successfully undergoing his medical assessment on Saturday and is set to link up with his new teammates in Singapore.
During his tenure at Sporting, Viktor played a pivotal role in securing back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and a national cup, also finishing as the league's top scorer in both seasons. On the international stage, he has made a mark by scoring 12 goals in his last 17 appearances for Sweden.
"I felt that joining Arsenal was the right decision for me," remarked the 27-year-old, who recorded 39 league goals last season in Portugal. He also noted that Arsenal's 5-1 victory against his former team in the UEFA Champions League last November influenced his choice.
"When I faced Arsenal last season, I noticed they were a very formidable team and challenging to compete against," he commented.
"That experience played a significant role in my decision to join Arsenal, along with the club's rich history and its massive fanbase," he added, expressing admiration for the club's supporters.
Arsenal's coach, Mikel Arteta, has praised the addition of Gyokeres, stating, "Viktor possesses numerous qualities. He is a rapid and powerful presence on the field, boasting impressive goal-scoring statistics at both club and international levels."
Arteta further noted, "He brings a sharp edge with a high conversion rate of opportunities into goals, and his intelligent positioning in the box makes him a constant threat to defenses."
Arsenal has been active in this summer's transfer window, welcoming players such as Spain international midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard from Brentford, Chelsea duo Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke, along with Valencia’s Spain under-21 defender Cristhian Mosquera.
