Seattle, April 1 (NationPress) The Seattle Sounders FC have officially signed winger Ryan Kent, as announced by the club on Tuesday (IST). He has a contract that runs through 2025 with an option for 2026. The 28-year-old former English youth international was a free agent after his last stint with the Turkish team Fenerbahce.

Head Coach Brian Schmetzer expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Ryan is an exceptional player with a remarkable background, and we’re thrilled to have him join our squad. His skill on the ball, ability to take on defenders, and capacity to stretch opposing defenses will add a crucial element to our offensive strategy.

"We believe Ryan will adapt quickly and provide a significant boost as we navigate the demanding 2025 season," Schmetzer added.

Kent’s arrival comes in the wake of Paul Arriola's ACL injury. Acquired from FC Dallas in an offseason trade, the US international played only six matches before sustaining the injury.

With 319 first-team appearances, Kent boasts an impressive record of 38 goals and 64 assists. His career began at the renowned English club Liverpool, where he subsequently made a name for himself at the Scottish giants, Rangers.

During his time at Rangers, Kent earned a spot in the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League Team of the Season for his contributions that helped the team reach the tournament final, alongside securing two titles.

General Manager & CSO Craig Waibel commented, "We are excited to have Ryan Kent join us and enhance our current roster this season. He is a versatile winger with elite experience, bringing speed, creativity, and a significant attacking threat.

"His adaptability and strong work ethic align perfectly with our system, and we are confident he will have an immediate impact, helping us maintain our competitiveness at the top level," Waibel stated.

As of now, Seattle has managed only one victory in their league matches (1W-2L-3D) throughout the first six matchdays. The Rave Green will also be participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
