Los Angeles, July 25 (NationPress) Singer-songwriters Nick and Joe Jonas are reflecting on some uncomfortable moments from their past. The brothers have revealed the awkward questions they were reportedly asked regarding their private lives during their rise to fame.
In a July 24 episode of Penn Badgley's Podcrushed podcast, the duo recounted how they faced inquiries about their choice to wear purity rings and whether they were waiting until marriage to become intimate with partners, as reported by People magazine.
Joe, aged 35, mentioned that certain journalists would threaten to suggest the brothers, who gained fame as members of the Jonas Brothers, were part of a cult if they didn’t discuss their positions on these sensitive topics. This assertion left a surprised Badgley, 38, to question the appropriateness of “asking a 10-year-old about their sex life.”
Although he was not 10 at the time, Nick, 32, acknowledged that the industry has made significant progress in terms of “the conversation and dialogue.”
“I think it’s really a positive development,” he expressed, explaining, “Back then, it would have been unimaginable to ask a 14-year-old about their sex life.”
Joe added that such inquiries would arise in “every interview,” and Nick emphasized it was a broader issue. “It wasn’t just us. It was an entire generation of young people facing similar situations,” he remarked.
Regarding their purity rings, Joe explained it was a tradition within their church community, where many children around the ages of 10 or 11 participated. They collectively decided to “wait for the right person.” Reflecting on their ages of 15 or 16, he noted they often avoided discussing the topic, yet felt the pressure to conform to expectations.
The DNCE frontman stated they faced inquiries not only about sex but also about religion and Christianity. There were even moments when questions like “What is God?” and “Is there a God?” were posed.
“And it’s all documented... So, you felt the pressure. I can certainly speak for all three of us here. I experienced the pressure of having to lead our lives based on a statement we made once. It’s in print, so you must uphold it forever,” Joe added.
Joe also noted that Nick’s choice to pursue a solo career, which he labeled as “a leap of faith,” allowed them the freedom to make their own choices and truly evolve as individuals.
