New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) BJP MP Kangana Ranaut expressed her support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address in Parliament regarding ‘Vande Mataram’ on Monday, stating that the Prime Minister has once again instilled pride in the nation.
As an artist, she conveyed great pride that such a significant song, poem, and artistic piece is being deliberated in Parliament for a substantial ten hours.
The MP highlighted that the Prime Minister elaborated on the historical significance of ‘Vande Mataram’, explaining how it revitalized the spirit of resistance during the freedom struggle and ignited a movement against the British Empire.
“As an artist, it's a moment of immense pride that a song, a poem, a work of art like this is being discussed in Parliament for ten hours. Today, it is a symbol of nationalistic consciousness, with a journey that spans centuries,” Ranaut told IANS.
She remarked, “I have noticed that Prime Minister Modi has always appreciated art and artists. This is a form of soft power, especially words, which can significantly enhance self-confidence. I believe that the commencement of ‘Amritkaal’ in 2014 marked a golden chapter in our history.”
The actress-turned-politician also mentioned the considerable challenge of restoring women's dignity that was compromised by the Congress party.
She criticized the Congress for its treatment of women, stating that it has historically insulted them.
“I have experienced this firsthand; they (Congress) have commented on my attire, my work, and have even demeaned women from Mandi by questioning their ‘worth’,” she remarked.
Ranaut added that in regions where the BJP governs, like Madhya Pradesh, Congress accuses women of excessive drinking and disparages their character.
“The Congress's attacks on women's dignity illustrate their opposition to anything that reveres women, like ‘Vande Mataram’, which references Maa Durga. It is in their nature to oppose women. Thus, once again, Prime Minister Modi has made us proud with his address,” she stated.
Regarding the absence of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during the Vande Mataram discussion, Kangana expressed uncertainty about his absence.
She asserted that Rahul Gandhi clearly lacks the understanding of the importance of this speech or the significance of ‘Vande Mataram’.
“If you asked him to translate this song, I challenge you — he wouldn’t be able to sing or translate it. Even explaining a few words would be beyond him. That’s why he’s avoiding this; he struggles with Hindi, and ‘Vande Mataram’ intertwines Sanskrit and Bengali. I doubt he could grasp it,” she added.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi commemorated the 150th year of Vande Mataram in Parliament, invoking memories of the Emergency (1975) and describing the patriotic hymn as a vital element of India’s freedom movement and a symbol of resilience against oppression.
