In New Delhi on December 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a significant debate in the Lok Sabha on Monday, commemorating 150 years of 'Vande Mataram'. This initiative aims to unveil various lesser-known aspects of this patriotic anthem.

During the discussion, PM Modi is expected to emphasize the song's vital role, penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and initially published in Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875, in the Indian freedom movement, its historical importance, and its contemporary significance.

The Opposition is eagerly anticipating PM Modi’s insights on Vande Mataram, especially after he accused the Congress last month during an event celebrating the song's anniversary of “removing key stanzas” during their 1937 Faizabad session.

He stated that the Congress's actions laid the groundwork for Partition and fragmented the national song. The Congress, however, argued that their decision was based on Rabindranath Tagore's counsel, aiming to respect the sentiments of members from diverse communities.

The discussion on Vande Mataram in the Rajya Sabha is poised to begin with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.

According to the agenda for the Vande Mataram debate, ruling NDA members have been allotted three hours out of the total ten hours designated in Lok Sabha.

A political stir occurred just before the Winter Session commenced, as the Rajya Sabha Secretariat emphasized that MPs should avoid using phrases like 'Vande Mataram' and 'Jai Hind' within Parliament to preserve decorum.

The Opposition has accused the BJP-led NDA of being uneasy with symbols representing India's Independence and unity.

The Winter Session of Parliament is scheduled to run until December 19, and the upcoming discussion on ‘Vande Mataram’ is anticipated to be contentious due to differing views between the treasury and opposition benches.
