New Delhi, Oct 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to contribute their ideas for honoring the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram', India's national anthem, originally composed on November 7, 1896, by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
During the 127th installment of his monthly radio program, 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister stated, "In 'Mann Ki Baat' today, let's delve into a topic that resonates deeply with us all. This topic is our national anthem -- India's anthem, 'Vande Mataram'. A song whose opening word stirs profound emotions within us. 'Vande Mataram' -- this single word encompasses immense feelings and energies."
"In essence, it allows us to feel the nurturing love of Ma Bharati. It raises our awareness of our duties as the children of Ma Bharati. In challenging times, the chant of 'Vande Mataram' invigorates 140 crore Indians with a spirit of unity," he added.
The Prime Minister emphasized that 'Vande Mataram' symbolizes patriotism and profound affection for our homeland.
"Patriotism... love for Ma Bharati... if this feeling transcends words, then 'Vande Mataram' is the melody that provides a tangible form to that intangible emotion. Composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay to reinvigorate a nation diminished by centuries of oppression, 'Vande Mataram' may have originated in the 19th century, yet its essence is intertwined with an ancient Indian consciousness that spans millennia," he remarked.
Highlighting the deep-rooted nature of the sentiment behind the song, PM Modi noted that the Vedas established the foundation of Indian civilization with the sentiment that Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay encapsulated in 'Vande Mataram', "enshrining the bond between the motherland and its offspring as a universal mantra of emotion."
Clarifying the context of his remarks, the Prime Minister stated, "You may wonder why I am suddenly focusing on 'Vande Mataram'! In just a few days, on November 7, we will mark the 150th anniversary of its composition. 'Vande Mataram' was first sung by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in 1896."
"Millions of fellow citizens have consistently felt a tremendous surge of national pride with the performance of 'Vande Mataram'. Our generations have witnessed a vibrant and majestic portrayal of India through the lyrics of 'Vande Mataram'," he stated.
He affirmed that the song will continue to inspire future generations.
"This is the India we aspire to build. 'Vande Mataram' will forever be our guiding light in this endeavor. Hence, we must ensure that the 150th year of 'Vande Mataram' is a memorable one. We have a responsibility to carry forward these values for the generations to come," PM Modi concluded.
Encouraging public involvement in the celebrations, he added, "In the near future, numerous programs and events related to 'Vande Mataram' will be organized across the country. I urge all citizens to contribute with enthusiasm to honor 'Vande Mataram'. Please send me your suggestions using the hashtag 'Vande Matram 150'. I eagerly await your input, and together we will make this occasion historic," he remarked.
