Karnataka 7 murders: Probe underway, minor daughter allegedly aided disposal of bodies
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday, 7 November 2026, confirmed that the investigation into the murder of seven family members in Bengaluru is actively progressing, with police probing the alleged role of the accused man's minor daughter, who reportedly accompanied him while transporting the victims' bodies. Only one of the seven bodies has been recovered so far, and investigators say further details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the probe.
What the Accused Told Police
The suspect, identified as Indushekar, has reportedly offered multiple reasons for the killings, including allegations that his wife's family members did not treat him respectfully and broader grievances against his wife, Divya. Speaking to reporters, Kharge said police were actively verifying all such claims. He also noted a reported age gap of around 13 to 14 years between Indushekar and Divya, and that neighbours had stated the couple frequently quarrelled — statements that are also being verified.
During questioning, the accused reportedly expressed no remorse for his actions, according to investigators.
The Alleged Timeline of Killings
According to investigation details, Indushekar allegedly began the killings on October 16 by murdering Sunitha. Two days later, on October 18, he allegedly killed his mother-in-law Roopavathi, transporting both bodies on October 19. On October 24, he allegedly murdered his brother-in-law Shivakumar. The following morning, October 25, he allegedly killed his wife Divya and son Puneeth, transporting those bodies on October 27. On November 1, he allegedly killed another brother-in-law, Shankar, and Shankar's wife Nalini. The bodies were allegedly disposed of in areas surrounding Shiradi Ghat and Nandi Hills on November 2. Missing-person complaints were lodged by the families on November 3.
Role of the Minor Daughter
Investigators say preliminary findings suggest Indushekar allegedly brainwashed his minor daughter into accompanying him during the disposal of the bodies. He reportedly believed her presence during the early-morning transportation runs would prevent suspicion. The minor daughter has reportedly told police that she acted solely on her father's instructions. Police are examining whether her actions amount to abetment of the crimes.
Separately, investigators are also probing allegations that Indushekar allegedly used his minor daughter to extort money from others by threatening them with false cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. In one reported prior incident, a dispute over vehicle parking escalated into an altercation, after which the daughter allegedly filed a false complaint. Police had reportedly reprimanded them on that occasion. The daughter allegedly recorded such disputes on her mobile phone on her father's instructions.
Key Evidence Recovered
Police have seized a Toyota Etios bearing registration number KA 02 AF 1488, which the accused allegedly used to transport the bodies. The vehicle had a 'Press' sticker affixed to it. Investigators recovered rose water from inside the car, which the accused allegedly used to mask the smell of decomposing bodies. Bedsheets and other materials allegedly used in transporting the bodies were also found in the vehicle.
Notably, the car had outstanding traffic violation fines totalling ₹14,900 for offences including riding without a seat belt, jumping traffic signals, and illegal parking. Investigators also noted that no traffic violations were recorded against the vehicle between October 16 and October 31 — the period during which the killings and body disposals allegedly took place.
Police have further found that the accused allegedly removed gold ornaments from the victims' bodies — some were reportedly sold, some pledged, and the rest remained in his possession. Investigators wrapped the bodies were bound with adhesive tape approximately 10 times before disposal, according to investigation details.
Investigation Upgraded, Senior Officers Take Over
Given the gravity of the case, the investigation has been transferred from Police Inspector Krishna to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Prabhavathi, who has been appointed as the Investigating Officer. Additional Commissioner of Police Vamshi Krishna will supervise and monitor the probe. Police are continuing to examine the full sequence of murders, the disposal of bodies, alleged financial motives, and the precise role of the accused's daughter.
