Bengaluru, Jan 29 (NationPress) Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remarked that H.V. Anantha Subbarao, who dedicated his life to fighting for workers' rights, was a fervent leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
He addressed the press on Thursday after honoring the late Comrade H.V. Anantha Subbarao's remains.
This esteemed Trade Union leader, aged 84, passed away in Bengaluru on Wednesday due to a cardiac arrest.
He was particularly recognized for his extensive contributions to the state-owned road transport corporation.
Subbarao leaves behind his wife, Nagaratna, and two daughters.
Having been affiliated with the All India Trade Union Congress throughout his life, he led the transport workers' union in Karnataka for many years.
"Comrade Anantha Subbarao was the voice of the workers, actively participating in numerous struggles. Just a month ago, he met with the Chief Minister as a representative of KSRTC employees. He served as the President of the KSRTC Joint Action Committee and the staff union, demonstrating his dedication as a secular CPI leader," stated Siddaramaiah.
The Chief Minister noted that the state suffered a significant loss with Subbarao's passing.
He prayed for peace for the departed soul and asked God to provide strength to his family and followers during this sorrowful time.
Siddaramaiah shared that he knew Anantha Subbarao personally and maintained a positive relationship with him since his tenure as the State Transport Minister.
Opposition Leader and BJP member R. Ashoka expressed, "I extend my heartfelt condolences on the loss of senior labor leader Anantha Subbarao, who was also very dear to me."
"Anantha Subbarao dedicated nearly five decades to the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). As General Secretary and later President of the Karnataka unit, he developed the organization from its grassroots level. He tirelessly fought for workers' rights, from local struggles to high-stakes negotiations with the government," Ashoka elaborated.
"During my tenure as State Transport Minister, I often encountered him during meetings aimed at resolving transport employees' issues. While he firmly stood for workers' interests, he also showed cooperation when necessary to ensure public convenience," he added.
"Even after stepping down as AITUC President in December 2025 due to age-related concerns, he remained a steadfast advocate for workers until the end—an embodiment of his life's commitment. I pray for his soul's peace and for God to grant strength to his family and numerous admirers to cope with this profound loss," he concluded.
Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai expressed deep sorrow over Subbarao's demise following a heart attack.
In a post on X, he remarked that Anantha Subbarao fought tirelessly for workers' rights for nearly four decades and was pivotal in achieving justice for them.
Bommai stated that the state has lost a devoted and sincere fighter with Subbarao's passing, expressing his condolences to labor organizations and praying for the eternal peace of the departed.
