Chitradurga (Karnataka), March 31 (NationPress) Senior BJP figure and Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, stated on Tuesday that the Karnataka government is preparing to implement new taxes following the bypolls.
He emphasized that if voters hold the ruling party accountable, it might reconsider its decision to increase taxes.
This assertion was made during a press conference in Chitradurga on Tuesday.
In response to Congress' accusations regarding price hikes under the BJP-led Central government, LoP Ashoka pointed out that the Centre has reduced diesel prices, leading to a decrease in ghee costs as well.
LoP Ashoka argued that while the Centre is lowering prices, the Karnataka government is raising them. “You can observe that once the bypolls conclude, the state government is poised to levy all sorts of taxes on its citizens,” he stated.
He further accused the state government of imposing additional taxes on petrol, diesel, and various other essentials. “They will persist in this pattern, causing hardship for the public. If voters teach them a lesson during the bypolls, they may think twice before imposing new taxes,” he remarked.
Ashoka also announced the release of the BJP manifesto for the Davanagere constituency. He criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration for its mismanagement and corruption, alleging a 60 percent commission scandal. “Development is not on the agenda,” he asserted.
While criticizing the Chief Minister, Ashoka referred to him as “Saladaramaiah” (loan seeker), claiming that the government has accumulated a debt of Rs 1.32 lakh crore just this year and over Rs 4 lakh crore throughout its tenure, indicating that every individual in Karnataka is now burdened with a debt of Rs 80,000.
Ashoka alleged that Rs 5,000 crore intended for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme has not been disbursed, and Rs 750 crore allocated for the Anna Bhagya scheme remains unpaid. He also pointed out that contractors have not received their payments, suggesting these issues will be evident in the election outcomes.
He expressed confidence that the BJP would regain power in the 2028 Assembly elections.
“The populace will strive to overthrow this government, and this will be reflected in the bypoll results. They will support the BJP and advocate for development,” he stated.
On the topic of the IPL ticket controversy, Ashoka suggested that it is preferable for legislators to purchase tickets rather than request them for free. “I have voiced in the Vidhana Soudha that tickets should not be provided at no cost. Instead, they ought to be allocated to cricket clubs within constituencies,” he stated.
