Widely remembered for his groundbreaking contributions to irrigation systems, dam construction, and modern urban planning, he served as the Diwan of the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore and was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955. His birth anniversary has been observed as Engineers' Day across India since 1968.
