Mysuru, Nov 24 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai remarked on Monday that the contest for the leadership of the state is fundamentally between a ‘rebellious’ and a ‘compromised’ Siddaramaiah.
“If he embodies the earlier rebellious Siddaramaiah, he will not relinquish power under any circumstances. However, if he is the compromising Siddaramaiah, he may concede to pressure. Siddaramaiah’s situation should not have deteriorated to the point where he claims he will remain Chief Minister for five years,” Bommai stated.
He asserted that the public will soon realize how steadfast Siddaramaiah truly is.
“Siddaramaiah has always exhibited a rebellious spirit. His political stance has generally been rigid and uncompromising. We will soon see if that intrinsic nature has shifted due to his wish to stay in power,” he added.
Bommai also mentioned that since Siddaramaiah assumed office, the Congress party has shown signs of internal discord.
“These divisions have only expanded,” he commented.
He indicated that the BJP would decide on its course of action at the right moment, depending on how the leadership transition unfolds in the state.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah had expressed that he would continue as Chief Minister if the party high command deems it appropriate. “I will comply with the high command's decision,” he stated.
Siddaramaiah also affirmed his intention to govern the state for the entire five-year term and to present budgets for the remainder of that term.
On Saturday, he met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for an extensive discussion.
“The ultimate decision on all matters will be made by the high command. I will act according to their directives. If they wish for me to continue as Chief Minister, I will comply. I will follow the high command's instructions,” he reassured.
