Haveri (Karnataka), July 11 (NationPress) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Basavaraj Bommai stated on Friday that the only entity that can validate whether Siddaramaiah will remain as Chief Minister for the entire five-year term is the Congress high command. Until they provide clarity, the ongoing political turmoil in the state is set to continue.
Responding to a question regarding CM Siddaramaiah's assertion that he would serve a full five-year term, Bommai remarked that each time Siddaramaiah makes this declaration, speculation about his tenure deepens.
"Those responsible for addressing this matter remain silent. Unless the Congress High Command makes a statement, this political drama will go on," the BJP leader asserted.
"Irrespective of whether Siddaramaiah persists or resigns as Chief Minister of Karnataka, the primary concern should be to ensure that the state administration does not deteriorate. Siddaramaiah claims he will remain for a complete term, while others argue he will not. Who ultimately decides this? Why hasn't the Congress High Command confirmed his position as CM? The statements from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are met with skepticism. The Congress High Command needs to provide clarity on this issue," the former Chief Minister added.
On the recent discovery of a child trafficking network in Byagawadi village of Haveri district, Bommai described it as a "tragedy" and noted that such criminal acts proliferate when the state's law and order situation deteriorates.
"Gambling activities have surged in the district; residents are openly playing cards. The fact that young children are being brought from other areas and sold is both shocking and distressing," the BJP leader remarked.
He continued: "The woman accused, her daughter, and other individuals involved in the trafficking ring have not yet been apprehended. The main offenders are still at large. The Superintendent of Police must take this case seriously. What measures are in place to ensure the safety of girl children? An Anganwadi center is located right next to the accused Lakkavva's residence. Is the Women and Child Welfare Department inactive? They haven't even lodged a complaint."
Bommai called for immediate action from Haveri Deputy Commissioner Vijayamahantesh B. Danammanavar and alleged that known criminals in the area are receiving protection and are released within hours.
"In the Hanagal gang rape case, there are claims that police are facilitating compromises. This also requires investigation. The administration has completely broken down. Ministers and the Chief Minister seem more focused on retaining their political positions," Bommai criticized.
He further condemned the state government for its inability to pay contract workers.
"In sectors like health, contract workers are only compensated every three to four months," Bommai noted.
He highlighted that due to favorable pre-monsoon and monsoon rainfall, sowing has significantly increased in the state, leading to a high demand for urea fertilizer.
"However, the supply has not kept pace with demand," he stated while criticizing the Congress-led state administration.
"The Agriculture Department is responsible for supplying seeds and fertilizers according to the farmers' needs, yet it operates without foresight. The black market for fertilizers has already begun," Bommai added.
"Dealers are conducting illegal fertilizer sales. Despite repeated pleas, fertilizers are not being distributed. Although the marketing federation had provisions for supplying fertilizers to societies, this has also been monopolized, depriving societies of vital stock," he noted.
He urged State Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy to take immediate action to meet the fertilizer and seed requirements of farmers in Haveri district this year.
