Chandigarh, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, along with AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, unveiled the Roshan Punjab (or illuminated Punjab) campaign on Wednesday, featuring a substantial investment of Rs 5,000 crore aimed at transforming the state into the first in India to achieve a power cuts-free status.
While addressing attendees post-launch, Kejriwal acknowledged the severe floods that had struck Punjab, resulting in significant destruction, yet praised the resilience and wisdom of its people in overcoming the crisis.
He remarked that such an ambitious project had never been envisioned by any previous governments at both the Centre or state level, making this initiative a historic milestone for the Punjab government.
Kejriwal noted that the industrial sector currently enjoys the fourth-lowest tariff in the country, while the agriculture sector benefits from uninterrupted power supply. This new initiative marks a significant change, as no similar efforts have been undertaken in the past 75 years.
“It is truly a matter of pride and satisfaction to stand here with all of you to inaugurate the power cut-free Punjab project,” he stated.
He emphasized that this day signifies the dawn of a new era, introducing a groundbreaking initiative in Punjab's power sector.
For the first time, an investment of Rs 5,000 crore is being allocated to reform the power sector.
Kejriwal assured that through this initiative, Punjab will benefit from a continuous 24-hour power supply by next year, hence the project being named “Roshan Punjab”.
He commended Chief Minister Mann for devising the blueprint for this venture, which entails the establishment of new substations and power lines, reducing the load on feeders, and implementing other essential measures.
Arvind Kejriwal stated that the focus will be on developing new infrastructure, enhancing existing systems, and improving maintenance within the power sector.
This initiative aims to resolve voltage fluctuation issues, particularly in rural and remote areas, leading to a substantial enhancement in power supply.
During the event, Chief Minister Mann highlighted that education, healthcare, and power have become central issues in political discussions due to the dedicated efforts of AAP and its national convener Kejriwal.
He pointed out that prior to this, political parties largely neglected these vital sectors, which are crucial for the average citizen.
The Chief Minister expressed that the state government recognizes that power is the lifeline of the economy and has launched several key initiatives to boost this sector.
