Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday, 24 September publicly challenged Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to explain why no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the CMRL-Exalogic financial transaction case, even after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had reportedly handed over information and evidence to the state government. The demand escalates political pressure on the United Democratic Front (UDF) government in Thiruvananthapuram, which completed 150 days in office around this period.

The Core Allegation

At the heart of the controversy are claims that CMRL — a company associated with Kerala's public infrastructure ecosystem — made payments to Exalogic without receiving any commensurate services in return. Chandrasekhar alleged that Exalogic is linked to T. Veena, the daughter of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. 'The allegations involved the company linked to T. Chandrasekhar described the matter as 'a serious allegation of political corruption' that must be properly investigated. He questioned why the state government had neither registered an FIR nor ordered a Vigilance probe despite the ED's reported findings. 'If there is no substance in the allegations, an investigation should establish that. Why then is the state government not registering an FIR?' he asked.

CM Satheesan's Name in CMRL Diary

Chandrasekhar further escalated the confrontation by referring to reports that Chief Minister Satheesan's name had surfaced in a CMRL diary — an internal document that has reportedly become central to the broader investigation. He demanded that Satheesan personally clarify whether he had received any money referenced in the diary. 'The Chief Minister himself must answer this question. If the allegations are baseless, let an investigation establish the facts,' Chandrasekhar said.

This is the first time a senior BJP leader has publicly linked Satheesan's name to the diary entries, adding a direct political dimension to what had previously been framed as a case concerning the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

BJP's Broader Attack on 150-Day UDF Government

Beyond the CMRL-Exalogic matter, Chandrasekhar used the press interaction to mount a wider critique of the UDF government's first 150 days in office. He alleged that the present dispensation was continuing the political and administrative practices associated with the preceding LDF regime, including what he described as corruption, double standards, and broken promises.

Chandrasekhar also raised the controversy surrounding the use of a Range Rover and a private jet, calling them emblematic of governmental excess. He questioned whether such displays were all the administration had to offer after five months in office.

Referring to the outgoing LDF tenure, Chandrasekhar asked: 'What did Pinarayi Vijayan give Kerala after promising to set everything right in 10 years? Did the people not face corruption allegations, lack of development, unemployment and price rise?'

What Happens Next

Chandrasekhar concluded by stating that corruption allegations demanded a lawful investigation rather than a political settlement, implying that the government was attempting to manage the matter outside formal legal channels. The BJP is expected to intensify pressure through the legislature and public campaigns if no formal inquiry is ordered. The state government has not yet responded officially to the BJP's demands as of the time of this report.
