Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 2 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala is currently facing significant upheaval following serious allegations made by its former spokesperson, M. S. Kumar. He claims that internal financial discrepancies within the party are linked to the tragic death of Thiruvananthapuram unit secretary and councillor K. Anilkumar.

In light of these accusations, senior BJP leaders from the state are reportedly making efforts to reach out to Kumar, aiming to calm the situation and avert any further public relations damage to the party.

In an extensive post on Facebook, Kumar expressed that widespread financial mismanagement and a lack of accountability have plunged party members, including Anilkumar, into deep distress. He noted, “In the cooperative I’m associated with, about 70 percent of the borrowers belong to my own party, and among those who haven't repaid, an alarming 90 percent are also from the same party.”

58-year-old Anilkumar, who was in charge of a cooperative society at Valiyasala, was discovered hanging in his ward office at Thirumala on September 20. Authorities indicated that while his suicide note did not contain explicit political allegations, it did reveal that he faced immense pressure from depositors demanding their money back.

This incident ignited a political firestorm, with the CPI(M) holding the BJP morally responsible.

Kumar asserted that many defaulters were prominent office-bearers, cell convenors, and even newcomers who had recently allied themselves with the BJP's central leadership. “I have urged them numerous times to address this issue, but to no avail. Therefore, I will soon disclose their names along with the amounts they owe,” he stated. Kumar characterized Anilkumar as a sincere politician with great potential, emphasizing that the financial treachery within the party system led to his despair.

“He had the potential to advance significantly in politics, yet his involvement in the cooperative sector and the burden of others' debts ultimately led to his downfall. I empathize with his suffering—I'm experiencing the same struggle.” Additionally, Kumar criticized the media for exacerbating the crisis.

“Misleading reports suggested that our society had collapsed. Borrowers halted repayments, depositors rushed to withdraw their investments, and those whom Anil trusted turned their backs on him,” he noted. Addressing political hypocrisy, Kumar said, “True political commitment is not about paying floral tributes posthumously—it's about honoring the loans you have taken.”

Sources indicate that state BJP leaders have initiated private discussions with Kumar to persuade him against revealing the names of those allegedly in default. However, the party has yet to release an official statement regarding the situation.
