Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 2 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala is currently in a state of upheaval following serious claims made by its former spokesperson, M. S. Kumar. He has connected internal financial mismanagement within the party to the tragic death of Thiruvananthapuram unit secretary and councillor K. Anilkumar.
In light of these allegations, senior leaders from the state BJP are reportedly making efforts to reach out to Kumar, aiming to soothe tensions and avert further humiliation for the party.
In a comprehensive Facebook post, Kumar asserted that significant financial irregularities and a lack of accountability have pushed party members like Anilkumar into deep distress. “In the cooperative I’m part of, nearly 70 percent of the borrowers belong to my own party, and among those who haven’t repaid, 90 percent are also from the same party,” he expressed.
Anilkumar, 58, who oversaw a cooperative society at Valiyasala, was discovered deceased in his ward office at Thirumala on September 20. Authorities noted that the suicide note lacked overt political allegations but acknowledged that he faced immense pressure from depositors demanding repayments.
This incident ignited a political uproar, with the CPI(M) holding the BJP morally responsible.
Kumar accused many defaulters of being senior party officials, cell convenors, and even newcomers who had recently aligned themselves with the BJP's central leadership.
“I have implored them repeatedly, but no changes occurred. Therefore, I will soon disclose their identities and the amounts they owe,” he declared. He characterized Anilkumar as a “dedicated politician with vast potential,” suggesting that financial betrayal within the organization led him to despair.
“He had the potential to excel politically, but his involvement in the cooperative sector and the burden of others’ debts brought him down. I empathize with his suffering — because I’m experiencing the same ordeal.” Kumar also criticized the media for exacerbating the situation.
“Certain individuals circulated false reports claiming our society had collapsed. Borrowers halted repayments, depositors hurried to withdraw funds, and those whom Anil trusted forsook him,” he noted. Critiquing political hypocrisy, Kumar stated, “True political dedication is not merely about paying tribute after death — it’s about repaying the loans you acquired.”
According to insiders, state BJP leaders have initiated discreet discussions with Kumar to dissuade him from unveiling the names of the alleged defaulters. However, the party has yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation.
