Kolkata, Aug 30 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Kolkata Police apprehended three individuals linked to the assault on the West Bengal Congress headquarters situated in the city.
Simultaneously, the authorities have initiated a manhunt for BJP leader Rakesh Singh, who is alleged to be the mastermind behind the incident at Bidhan Bhawan. The police confirmed that these arrests were made following an FIR filed by Congress on Friday regarding the attack and vandalism of posters featuring party leaders such as Rahul Gandhi.
“Three individuals have been taken into custody. We are actively searching for others, including Rakesh Singh, in connection with the filed FIR,” remarked a senior officer from Kolkata Police.
A formal case has also been lodged against the accused under the Arms Act. Reports indicate that over 20 individuals have been named in the police complaint submitted at the Entally Police Station in Central Kolkata.
Following the submission of the FIR, police visited Rakesh Singh's residence on Friday night, but he was absent.
On the same day, a faction of BJP workers, led by Rakesh Singh, engaged in a violent protest at the state Congress headquarters located on CIT Road in central Kolkata. They burned party flags and vandalized posters of leaders including Rahul Gandhi to protest against alleged insults directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi's 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar.
The protesters initially assembled outside the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee office 'Bidhan Bhawan', where they ignited Congress flags and tires. They then proceeded inside the office premises, tearing down posters and defacing images of senior party members.
In the wake of this incident, Subhankar Sarkar, President of the Congress party's West Bengal unit, has demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for the attack. Alongside him, Congress members staged a road blockade at Moulali crossing to protest against the vandalism.
The BJP has been vocal in its criticism of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, especially after a video surfaced showing an unidentified person using a Hindi expletive aimed at Prime Minister Modi and his mother during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, where Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and Tejashwi Yadav had embarked on motorcycles to Muzaffarpur on Wednesday.
The Bihar Police on Friday arrested the individual reportedly responsible for the abusive remarks against the Prime Minister.
