Kolkata, June 7 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police have initiated an inquiry into a series of ransom threats directed at a businessman in the city, allegedly from a leader associated with left-wing extremism. A letter addressed to the proprietor of a well-known jewellery store in Kolkata has surfaced, with an individual identifying himself as Samir Mondal, claiming to be a Maoist leader, demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
“We require a substantial sum to broaden the Maoist operational network within the state. Hence, you are mandated to pay Rs 50 lakh for this cause. Should you fail to comply, necessary actions will be enforced against you. Approaching the police will not provide you with any respite; the police forces in West Bengal will not dare to confront us,” the letter stated.
The individual purporting to be Samir Mondal also included an address in Deganga, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Upon receiving the letter, the businessman wasted no time in alerting the local Burrabazar Police Station. He expressed concerns, particularly since he owns a shop in the same area of North 24 Parganas, where he was instructed to send the ransom payment.
“I am feeling frightened. Nevertheless, the police have assured me that they will take appropriate measures to ensure my safety,” the businessman stated.
