KTR accuses Revanth, Kishan Reddy of staging Metro drama to hide ₹30,000 crore scam
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday, 23 June alleged that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy are jointly orchestrating political theatre over the Hyderabad Metro Rail issue to conceal what he described as a massive financial scandal involving Metro Rail assets worth nearly ₹30,000 crore. KTR made the allegations while addressing a large gathering of BRS cadres in Serilingampally, Hyderabad.
The Scam Allegation
KTR alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is attempting to transfer nearly 250 acres of valuable Metro Rail-linked land and assets worth ₹30,000 crore to his family members, relatives, and close associates. He further alleged that the Chief Minister had pressured L&T Metro Rail officials and forced them out of the state to facilitate the takeover of these assets.
According to KTR, Revanth Reddy is also seeking to saddle the people of Telangana with L&T Metro Rail's debt of nearly ₹14,000 crore — liabilities that should have remained with the private company — solely to gain control over the Metro Rail assets. He claimed this manoeuvre was pushing the Metro Rail project toward financial distress.
Political Drama Charge
KTR alleged that the Chief Minister's sudden interest in the Metro Rail project was nothing more than a smokescreen for a larger financial scandal. He claimed that BRS had consistently exposed alleged scams of the Congress government ahead of time and was now sounding an early warning about another major irregularity in the making.
Notably, KTR questioned the sincerity of both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress governments, asking why the Centre had failed to approve the Metro Rail expansion proposed by the previous BRS administration from Lakdikapul to Patancheru. He pointed out that the Union government had sanctioned Metro projects for several smaller cities in Uttar Pradesh while withholding similar support for Telangana.
Airport Metro and BRS's Record
The BRS leader recalled that the previous BRS government had launched the Hyderabad Airport Metro Express project, connecting the Financial District to the Airport, without requiring major land acquisition. He argued that had the project not been shelved, it would have been completed by now, substantially easing traffic congestion for lakhs of commuters.
KTR alleged that the Airport Metro project was abandoned after Revanth Reddy assumed office due to what he described as a lack of vision and developmental priorities. He also reminded the gathering that while the Congress government had originally initiated the Hyderabad Metro Rail project and later abandoned it, former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao ensured that more than 70 per cent of the project was completed and made operational for public use.
What Happens Next
KTR said the people of Telangana would eventually learn who purchases and sells Metro-linked lands worth ₹30,000 crore and how these assets ultimately reach members of Revanth Reddy's family — a claim the ruling Congress government has not yet formally responded to. With BRS positioning these allegations as a pre-emptive public warning, the Metro Rail dispute is set to intensify as a flashpoint in Telangana's political landscape.
