New Delhi, Nov 4 (NationPress) At least four militants belonging to the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) were killed during a confrontation with security forces in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Tuesday, according to officials.
Security officials reported that "In the early hours of November 4, during an intelligence-driven operation, terrorists initiated unprovoked gunfire on an Army unit in Khanpi village, located about 80 Km West of Churachandpur, Manipur."
"The subsequent exchange of fire between Security Forces and UKNA militants, a group that has not signed the Suspension of Operations (non-SoO) agreement, resulted in the neutralisation of four insurgents during the operation dubbed 'Khanpi'," they added.
The operation is ongoing, with searches being conducted in surrounding areas.
This operation is a response to recent violent actions by UKNA militants, including the murder of a village chief, threats to residents, and efforts to disrupt regional peace and stability.
The successful elimination of these militants underscores the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to safeguard innocent civilians, address all threats, and maintain peace and security in Manipur.
From October 25 to November 1, the Army and Assam Rifles, in close collaboration with Manipur Police, carried out a series of precise, intelligence-led joint operations across various districts including Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Khuga, Keibul, Tronglaobi Makha Leikai, Keirao Wangkhem, Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal West, and Imphal East.
These operations resulted in the apprehension of 17 militants from both hill and valley-based groups, along with the recovery of 16 weapons, illegal substances, and various military supplies.
The detained militants are associated with groups such as the banned PREPAK (PRO), PLA, RPF/PLA, and KCP (PWG). Significant seizures included an INSAS LMG, rifles, grenades, a 51mm mortar shell, radios, and cash.
Additionally, forces confiscated 4.7 kg of methamphetamine, heroin, and a substantial cache of contraband, including 14,500 WIN cigarette packets and 863 liquor bottles.
These operations are vital in fostering peace, prosperity, and stability in Manipur and are crucial for the region's rapid stabilization.
The Kuki militant outfits, including UKNA and the CKMA, did not enter into the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the government in 2008. The CKMA is a newly established militant faction.
