Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 27 (NationPress) – Kerala's Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan has spotlighted the expelled member of the CPI-M's Kannur district committee, Kunjikrishnan, amid a significant crisis relating to political and law enforcement matters. He cautioned that the life of this whistleblower is endangered following his revelations of purported financial misconduct within the ruling party.

During a media briefing in the Legislative Assembly, Satheesan emphasized that Kunjikrishnan's swift expulsion is indicative of the CPI-M's intolerance towards dissent within its ranks.

Kunjikrishnan had made serious claims about irregularities associated with the Dhanaraj Martyrs’ Fund, the construction fund for the CPI-M Payyannur Area Committee, as well as the party’s electoral fund from 2021.

The Opposition argued that rather than investigating the gravity of these allegations, the CPI-M hastily expelled him within just 24 hours of the claims becoming public.

Satheesan highlighted the stark contrast in urgency, noting that the party has not acted with similar speed against leaders embroiled in severe criminal cases.

The Congress leader also drew attention to the escalating tensions following Kunjikrishnan’s revelations, where protests demanding accountability turned violent in Payyannur, resulting in attacks on Congress members.

He indicated that there have been explicit threats from local CPI-M leaders and supporters, fostering a climate of fear not only for the protesters but also for Kunjikrishnan, who bravely challenged his own party.

Satheesan dismissed allegations that Kunjikrishnan was being manipulated by rival political factions, asserting that the whistleblower did not seek aid from the UDF or any other party.

Attempts to paint him as politically motivated, he contended, are merely strategies to undermine his allegations and rationalize the punitive measures taken against him.

"This situation is about silencing a voice that has brought wrongdoing to light, not merely about political rivalry," Satheesan remarked.

He demanded that Kunjikrishnan’s complaint submitted to the CPI-M leadership, including the Chief Minister, should be promptly forwarded to the police for a fair investigation.

Satheesan reiterated that it is the duty of the state police to ensure Kunjikrishnan's safety, recalling previous instances where those who questioned the party internally faced dire consequences.

As the political friction intensifies, Kunjikrishnan’s case has emerged as a critical element in the broader discussion regarding transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of whistleblowers within Kerala's political landscape. The Opposition maintains that Kunjikrishnan's claims must not be suppressed through intimidation or expulsion.
