Will Expelled CPI-M Leader V. Kunjikrishnan's Request for Martyrs Fund Accounts Be Honored Before His Book Launch?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kannur (Kerala), Feb 2 (NationPress) Expelled CPI-M leader from Kerala, V. Kunjikrishnan, made an urgent appeal on Monday for the party to disclose the financial accounts associated with the Dhanaraj Martyrs’ Fund, just days before the anticipated publication of his book, which he asserts includes comprehensive financial documentation.
“My book includes the entire account statement. Given that the party has declared its intent to release the accounts, I kindly request that this be conducted prior to my book’s launch,” Kunjikrishnan stated to the media while at his residence in Payyannur.
He confirmed that the book launch, planned for Wednesday, will proceed as scheduled.
This request follows a statement from the party’s state Secretary, M.V. Govindan, indicating that the party would indeed release the financial accounts.
The demand arises amid increasing political unrest following Kunjikrishnan’s expulsion from the CPI-M earlier this week, alongside his move to petition the Kerala High Court for police protection during the book launch event.
Kunjikrishnan has emphasized that the legal plea is solely aimed at ensuring the event proceeds without interruptions.
At 74 years old, Kunjikrishnan was expelled from the party’s primary membership last month after reiterating claims of mismanagement of the Dhanaraj Martyrs’ Fund, which has sparked significant controversy within the CPI-M's Kannur district.
The party leadership has accused him of indiscipline and of acting as a “tool for party adversaries” by publicly bringing up these issues ahead of elections.
The CPI-M maintains that the accusations were thoroughly reviewed and resolved internally in April 2022.
Kannur district Secretary K.K. Ragesh stated that an internal investigation found the claims to be unfounded and that Payyannur MLA and district Secretariat member T.I. Madhusoodanan played no role in managing the funds.
While the party acknowledged minor issues such as typographical mistakes and absent receipt books, they insisted there was no financial detriment and that corrective measures had been enacted.
Conversely, Kunjikrishnan’s book, titled “Nethruthvathe Anikal Thiruthanam” (The Cadre Must Correct the Leadership), sharply criticizes the CPI-M's state leadership, accusing it of ideological decay, protecting malfeasance, and operating merely as a traditional electoral entity.
The book places substantial emphasis on Payyannur, alleging factionalism, financial misconduct, and leadership failures.
As Assembly elections draw near and the party continues to recover from the setbacks of the December 2025 local body polls, the emerging controversy has revealed significant divides within the CPI-M.
