Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 10 (NationPress) Following a court session in Delhi concerning the land-for-jobs scandal, former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav made his way back to Patna on Saturday.
He was seen with his eldest daughter and Patliputra Lok Sabha MP Misa Bharti.
Upon arriving at Patna Airport, Misa Bharti took a moment to speak with journalists, informing them that formal charges are set to be outlined on January 29 during the upcoming hearing in the land-for-jobs case.
Lalu Prasad Yadav had been in Delhi for over a month, recovering from eye treatment. He successfully underwent both cataract and retina surgery at the Centre for Sight in Delhi on December 20, 2025.
Post-surgery, he recuperated at Misa Bharti's official residence in the capital.
A pivotal ruling by the Special CBI court at Rouse Avenue has ignited fresh political unrest within the RJD.
In the land-for-jobs scandal, the court has mandated the indictment of Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, their sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, daughter Misa Bharti, and additional defendants.
The court has instructed that Lalu Prasad Yadav face prosecution under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In reaction to the court’s decision, leaders from the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) voiced sharp criticism.
JD-U spokesperson Neeraj Kumar launched a fierce critique of the Lalu family on Friday, accusing them of operating a 'criminal political syndicate' that has sullied the legacy of the socialist movement in Bihar.
He asserted that the court's ruling is a logical consequence of the family's conduct and urged for prompt resolution of the case.
Neeraj Kumar also called for the confiscation of the Lalu family's assets.
He proposed that orphanages, senior citizen homes, and facilities for the extremely backward classes be established on the seized properties, emphasizing that such actions would establish a strong social precedent and convey a clear message that politics should not be a business, and corruption will have significant repercussions.
