Vientiane, Feb 10 (NationPress) Preparations are in full swing for the election of members to the 10th legislature of the Laos National Assembly and the fifth Provincial People's Councils, with nationwide campaigning actively ongoing to guarantee a smooth, transparent, and lawful electoral process ahead of polling day.

Candidate campaigning is proceeding across the country to equip voters with thorough information before polling day on February 22. The initiative aims to enhance voter awareness and motivate thoughtful engagement in the electoral process, promoting the selection of capable candidates who can authentically represent the diverse ethnic groups and protect the rights and interests of the populace, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

Authorities are encouraging all eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights come election day.

To ensure an efficient electoral process, officials have reiterated their dedication to maximizing voter involvement, strictly following election laws, ensuring comprehensive security, promoting transparency, and providing timely financial support for election operations.

During a recent visit to Vientiane province on Monday to oversee security measures for the elections, Laos Minister of Public Security Vanthong Kongmany urged relevant sectors to enhance collaboration, work closely with village security forces, bolster personnel deployment in sensitive areas, and remain prepared to address any incidents. He also highlighted the necessity of fire prevention, traffic management, and maintaining strict discipline among civil servants and security personnel to ensure a safe and orderly election.

The Laos National Election Committee has announced 243 candidates for the 10th National Assembly, with 66 women representing 27 percent of the total. A total of 175 members will be elected to the legislature.

The elections rank among the most crucial events in the nation’s political calendar, granting citizens a direct role in shaping national development.

Earlier in January, election officials convened in Savannakhet province to evaluate progress and strengthen coordination, underscoring the importance of enhancing political awareness among eligible voters.

Authorities called for the timely and precise completion of voter registration lists and encouraged innovative public outreach that merges national guidance with local characteristics to foster active participation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Technology and Communications conducted a dissemination meeting to inform Party members and civil servants about election guidelines.
