Kolkata, Aug 18 (NationPress) On Monday, the authorities took into custody the convener of the Unemployed Teachers' March aimed at the School Service Commission (SSC) office in Kolkata's Salt Lake area. This occurred just a day after police expressed concerns regarding the organizers' intentions to instigate a violent protest.
Suman Biswas was apprehended at Adisaptagram station located in Hooghly district by officers from the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate.
Reports indicate that personnel from Chinsurah police station conducted a raid on Suman Biswas's residence in Bandel, Hooghly district, early in the morning. His family claimed that police were stationed outside their home from dawn. However, Suman left his house much earlier to avoid potential arrest. He was later taken into custody at Adisaptagram station, though the police have not disclosed his whereabouts since.
Suman's brother, Sanjay Biswas, informed the media, “I just learned that my elder brother was heading from Adisaptagram station to the protest site in Kolkata when police detained him. He was not given a chance to speak or informed of his destination.”
The Unemployed Qualified Teachers Forum had organized a march to the SSC office on Monday, demanding job placements for teachers affected by the SSC recruitment scandal and employment opportunities for qualified, yet unemployed youth.
Biswas, who leads the forum, had announced the SSC Bhavan march on social media and also sent an email to the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate regarding this event. Nevertheless, the police denied them permission to proceed with the march.
On Sunday, the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate claimed to have intercepted plans for a violent demonstration in Kolkata by the organization’s members. They disclosed that they had obtained an audio recording of a conversation between two job-seekers, indicating intentions to incite unrest through petrol bombs and socket bombs.
Deputy Commissioner of Bidhannagar Police, Aneesh Sarkar, stated, “We discovered a recorded conversation involving two individuals, both forum members, containing disturbing content. Plans for a violent uprising were evident. The recording has been seized and a case has been initiated.”
Following this, Bidhannagar Police released the audio clip and assured that the identified individuals would face consequences. They also emphasized the need for maintaining law and order.
On Monday, police in Murshidabad arrested an individual named Rezaul Karim from the Jalangi area, identified as one of the individuals in the audio recording.
