Jaipur, June 17 (NationPress) The recent widespread rainfall throughout the desert state offered a much-needed break from the oppressive heat, as most districts in Rajasthan, including the capital Jaipur, remained under a cloudy sky since Tuesday.
However, by the afternoon, rain began to pour in over 11 districts, resulting in waterlogging in various areas, such as Jaipur, Dausa, and Sikar.
In a heartbreaking incident, a farmer tragically lost his life due to a lightning strike in Kapura Dhaar village of Bayana, Bharatpur. The deceased, Ramnivas Gurjar (60), was in the process of weeding along his field’s boundary when rain began around 4 p.m. In search of shelter, he took refuge under a tree, which was subsequently struck by lightning.
Ramnivas collapsed instantly. Nearby farmers, alerted by the thunder, rushed to his aid and transported him to the Bayana Sub-District Hospital in a private vehicle. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In another unfortunate event in Deeg, an 8-year-old child named Aakash lost his life due to a lightning strike in Nagla Maharaniyan village under Khoh police station jurisdiction. Aakash and his friend Madhav (10) were playing outside when lightning struck.
Aakash was killed instantly, while Madhav sustained burns. Madhav was initially taken to Deeg Hospital and subsequently referred to a higher medical facility in Bharatpur for further treatment. Aakash was the sole brother of two sisters, and his father, Sirdhari, is a farmer. His body has been placed in the mortuary of Deeg Hospital.
The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for 28 districts on Wednesday. In the past 24 hours, several eastern Rajasthan districts, including Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Alwar, Dausa, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, and Ajmer, received between one to three inches of rainfall.
In Jaipur alone, over 37 mm of rain was recorded by Tuesday evening. Farmers expressed relief as the heavy rainfall, especially in Alwar, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and Churu, provided much-needed water to the region, with these areas experiencing between 10 to 60 mm of rainfall. Rainfall in Churu began around 3:30 p.m. and continued steadily.
Waterlogging was reported in numerous low-lying areas, including the city’s new bus stand, Nature Park, Bhartiya Hospital, Medical College, White Clock Tower, Lohia College, and Johri Sagar.
Traffic was significantly impacted, particularly in front of the government old age home near the new bus stand, where vehicles struggled through flooded roads.
