Imphal, Oct 7 (NationPress) Security forces in Manipur have successfully confiscated a nine-foot-long country-made rocket, which contained explosives and a detonator, and apprehended three militant operatives from two distinct groups within the last 24 hours, officials reported on Tuesday.
A police representative revealed that the rocket was recovered from the area between S. Lonphai and Tuikong villages in Churachandpur district, which shares an unprotected border with Myanmar and an inter-state border with Mizoram. The explosive device weighed a substantial 200 kg.
As part of their ongoing operations against illegal militant factions, security forces arrested three militants affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA)/Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) in the Imphal East and Imphal West Districts. The PLA, one of Manipur’s oldest militant organizations, primarily operates in the Imphal valley region, alongside its political wing, the RPF.
The detained militants were reportedly involved in recruiting local youth for RPF/PLA, engaging in extortion from both residents and government officials in the Imphal valley, and using intimidation tactics in loan recovery disputes.
Additionally, Manipur Police arrested two individuals, seizing 26.470 kg of illegal Ganja from the Awang Sekmai area in Imphal West district. The suspects have been identified as Ramjan Ahmed Laskar (26) and Mirinshing Lunghaar (38), both hailing from Teinem Village in Ukhrul district.
The official further mentioned that security forces are actively conducting search operations and maintaining a presence in vulnerable areas across various districts. The movement of 346 vehicles transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) has been secured without incident.
Stringent security protocols have been established at all critical locations, ensuring safe passage of vehicles through sensitive stretches. A total of 115 checkpoints have been established across different districts, both in hilly and valley regions, to deter illegal movements and monitor suspicious vehicles.
