A police spokesperson revealed that the captured extremists were members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), arrested in Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal West districts.
The recovered arsenal comprised one .303 rifle complete with a magazine, three single-barreled rifles, three shotguns, two 9 mm pistols, and munitions including three high-powered grenades and five detonators.
Additionally, various incriminating documents were confiscated from the militants' possession.
In a parallel operation, security forces eradicated illegal poppy farms across a sprawling 30 acres in the Kangchup area of Kangpokpi district.
Three makeshift farm huts, three bags of fertilizer, and two salt sacks discovered at the sites were also destroyed.
Furthermore, two charred Gypsy vehicles were located in the vicinity.
With this recent operation, the total number of apprehended militants in Manipur has reached 18 over the past 48 hours.
An official noted that these hardcore militants were implicated in various criminal activities, including coercion and the forced collection of subscriptions from civilians, government personnel, and contractors.
The Manipur Police continue to intensify their offensive against militant activities, conducting searches and asserting control in mixed-population and vulnerable districts.
According to the official, a network of 115 checkpoints has been established throughout Manipur, encompassing both hilly and valley regions, aimed at curbing the movement of hostile elements and suspicious vehicles.
Moreover, security forces are escorting numerous vehicles transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Rigorous security protocols are enforced at all sensitive locations, ensuring safe transit for vehicles.
Manipur Police have advised the public to remain skeptical of rumors and be cautious of misleading videos. “To verify any circulating unfounded videos or audio clips, please consult the Central Control Room. There is a high risk of fake posts surfacing on social media. We warn that distributing such misleading content could lead to legal repercussions,” stated the police.
The police have also urged individuals to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the nearest police station or security post without delay.
