Imphal, April 4 (NationPress) The Manipur Police apprehended 11 militants affiliated with various outlawed groups and seized a substantial cache of arms and ammunition within the last 24 hours, officials reported on Friday.

A police representative revealed that four militants were taken into custody in Imphal East district, five in Imphal West district, and one each from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts. The captured insurgents are tied to the banned PREPAK, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) -- all of which are valley-based organizations in Manipur.

The apprehended militants were implicated in abductions, coercive money collection from traders, officials, and contractors, and they also issued threats to individuals.

Authorities are currently interrogating the detained militants to uncover further details regarding their operations.

Over the past two months, the Manipur Police have detained more than 60 militants from various groups and seized an extensive cache of arms, ammunition, incriminating documents, and stolen items from their possession.

Additionally, a person identified as Nurul Islam alias Bapon (28) was arrested in the Jiribam district, where four stolen motorcycles were recovered from him.

The police have seized a significant amount of arms and various types of ammunition from Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts. The recovered weapons consist of self-loading rifles, 12 bore single-barrel rifles, .303 rifles, and several pistols.

In related news, a defense spokesperson mentioned that in a series of coordinated operations, the Indian Army and other central and state forces have, over the past few days, recovered 24 weapons, numerous improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, various ammunition, and other war-like supplies.

The spokesperson stated that the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and Manipur Police have confiscated these weapons and ammunition from five districts: Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Imphal East, and Bishnupur.

The confiscated arms include Bolt Action Rifles, Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), Single Bore Barrel Rifles (SBBL), and pistols, along with ammunition and war supplies. These items have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and distribution.
